The Department of General Education at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh organized an online meet and greet for freshers of the Fall 2021 term on Thursday, 4 November 2021. The theme of the program was Liberal Arts Essential to Quality Education.
Professor Muhammad Ibrahim welcomed the students to the department andhighlighted the significance of studying liberal arts. He added that without exposer to GED courses students higher education cannot be fulfilled.
Professor Salimullah Khan, Ph.D., Director, Center for advanced Theory, ULAB, in his speech, focused on the importance of liberal arts education and informed that General Education Department plays a key role in the goal of the university. He also added that ULAB is pioneering Liberal Arts Education in the country.
Professor Jude William Genilo, Ph.D., Dean, School of Social Science and Director, IQAC Cell, ULAB, discussed the importance of bodies of knowledge in the learning process and the importance of General education courses.
Professor M. Mofazzal Hossain, Ph.D., Dean, School of Science and Engineering, and Professor Syed Akhter Hossain, Ph.D., Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, ULAB, also highlighted the need for free thinking for building a sustainable tomorrow.
Arifa Ghani Rahman, Head, School of Arts and Humanities, ULAB stressed that a liberal arts education prepares students to examine ideas from multiple points of view, solve problems, adapt, and collaborate.
Md. Rayhan Kabir Shuvro, a student of ULAB at the Department of Media Studies and Journalism, reflected his experience the courses he did in the General Education Department
The Guest of HonourProfessor Sukanya Sharma, Ph.D., Head, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Guwahati, Assam,encouraged students to take a keen interest in the emergence of Bangladesh and learn more about the history and heritage of Bangladesh.
