The Department of Civil Engineering of United International University (UIU) in collaboration with The Daily Star organized a seminar on “Transformative Change in Stormwater Management of Dhaka City” on October 03, 2023 (Tuesday) at 2:00 PM at UIU Campus, United City, Madani Avenue, Dhaka.
Mr. Atiqul Islam, Honorable Mayor, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) was present as the Chief Guest. Mr. Mahfuz Anam, Editor and Publisher was present as the Special Guest. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (In-charge) of UIU Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia presided over the Ceremony. Three presentations about stormwater systems were presented by Brigadier General Muhammad Amirul Islam PSC Chief Engineer, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Prof. Dr. Md. Ataur Rahman Department of Water Resources Engineering, BUET and Prof. Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman, Dept. of Civil Engineering, UIU. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Afzal Ahmed, Head, Dept. of Civil Engineering, UIU in the seminar.
The Chief Guest said that the borders of the rivers and canals of Dhaka city will be determined and freed from encroachment. He also said that Stormwater in Dhaka city should be properly managed and developed for future generations through urbanization.
Other speakers highlighted the importance of the stormwater management system in Dhaka city, obstacles, proper use and its right implementation in the seminar.
Faculty members, officials, academicians, government officials, researchers and other distinguished guests from various organizations were present in the seminar.
