Bangladeshi film ‘Megher Kopat’ won three awards at India’s Global Independent Film Festival (GIFFI)-2023. The award was handed over to the director Walid Ahmed and producer Afroza Momen of the film ‘Megher Kopat’ at a grand ceremony in Kolkata on December 1, 2023 evening. The three awards are – ‘Best Foreign Film’, ‘Best Director (Foreign Film)’ and ‘Raj Kapoor Award’.
Organized for the third time by the Dreamz Cultural Association, this film festival features more than 400 films worldwide. Anjan Bose, Film Producer and Owner of Aurora Film Corporation, Abhijit Banerjee, Film Director, CS Karnan, Justice, Calcutta and Madras High Court, Jaideep Mukherjee, Advocate, Supreme Court of India and Editor, All India Legal Aid Forum were present at the award ceremony. including eminent persons. More than 70 filmmakers from around the world participated in the festival.
India’s Global Independent Film Festival (GIFFI) was held from 10 am to 8 pm at the Swami Bhibekananda Auditorium of Moulali Youth Center in Kolkata on December 1. On this day, the best selected 40 films were screened in the first phase and the award ceremony was held in the second phase from 4 pm. It is said that 10 award-winning professional judges associated with the film world of India and other countries of the world were in charge of judging the festival.
This year, on the centenary of the legendary actor and film director Raj Kapoor, 3 films including the Bangladeshi film ‘Megher Kopat’ were honored with the ‘Raj Kapoor Award’.
In this context, the director of ‘Megher Kopat’ film Walid Ahmed said, by awarding the film ‘Megher Kopat’ with 3 awards at India’s Global Independent Film Festival (GIFFI)-2023, 3 awards within a month of its release, even if it is from an international film festival. Especially by getting 3 awards in the same film festival, the name of Bangladesh has been specially discussed among the directors-producers coming from all over the world in the festival, which is a glory for our country.
It should be noted that the film ‘Megher Kopat’ was released in the cinema hall of Bangladesh on November 3, 2023. Written and directed by Walid Ahmed, the film stars Rakib Hossain Evon, Cindy Rolling, Sabrina Tonni, Afroza Momen, Rezaur Rahman Rizvi, Rehana Parveen Hasi, Zaman Saif, Raju Ahsan and many others. All the 5 songs of this movie are written by the director Walid Ahmed. Javed Ali, Aorgha, Rupankar Bagchi, Afroja Momen, Dilruba Kamal and Aninda Chatterjee have given voice to these songs of melodious genre. Music directed by Nasif Ani, Rupankar Bagchi, Walid Ahmed and Abhishek Saha. Walid Ahmed and Afroza Momen jointly produced the film.
