Inauguration of 21st AOCMP held at UIU

The inauguration of the three-day 21st Asia Oceania Congress of Medical Physics (AOCMP), the biggest conference of the Asia Oceania region was held on December 10, 2021 (Friday) at 5:0 P.M. at UIU Auditorium for the first time in Bangladesh.

Mr. Ziaul Hasan, NDC, Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present as the Chief Guest while Prof. Dr. Sanowar Hossain, Chairman, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), Prof. Dr. A K H Enayet Hussain, Director General, Medical Education, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Division, People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Dr. Kazi Anowarul Hoque, Additional Secretary (PRL), Local Government Division, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development & Cooperatives, Bangladesh Secretariat, Dhaka, Bangladesh and Prof. Dr. M Iqbal Arslan, President, Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad (SWACHIP) were present as the Special Guests.

Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of UIU was present as a patron in the Congress. Prof. Dr. Golam Abu Zakaria, Founder of Medical Physics in Bangladesh presided over the inauguration ceremony. First selected General Secretary from Bangladesh and organizing Chairperson of this Conference Prof. Dr. Hasin Anupama Azhari, Director, Center for Biomedical Science and Engineering, UIU and organizing Secretary of this conference Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Senior Medical Physicist, Labaid Cancer Hospital and Super Speciality Center, Dhaka was also present at the ceremony.

More than 170 speakers from 28 countries participated in 21st AOCMP 2021. AFOMP Best Ph.D. The award, Best Paper Award, The Young Achiever Award, Best Student Publication Award and Lifetime Achievement Award are given to young medical physicists and scientists from home and abroad for their inspiration in science.

The Chief Guest said that “Already we have arranged training besides education and profession in medical physics in the south Asia region. In the midst of this epidemic, we are going one step further by holding this conference. Bangladesh is the role model of Asia and we consider ourselves blessed conference in the 50th anniversary of independence also in the year of Mujib”.

Faculty members, academicians, Medical Physics specialists, government officials, researchers and other distinguished guests from various universities and institutions in Bangladesh and abroad were present at the inaugural ceremony.
