Formation of NDMA: Bold move by Relief Ministry

The Government of Bangladesh, in collaboration with UNDP Bangladesh as technical partner and financed by the World Bank, celebrates the successful implementation of the Training, Exercises and Drills (TED) Program under the Urban Resilience Project- Department of Disaster Management (DDM) part.

This initiative aims to fortify the institutional capacity of Emergency Management for urban mega-disasters. A sharing workshop held on 25 April 2024 in Dhaka, highlighted the program’s achievements and key learnings, with dignitaries including Hon’ble State Minister Md. Mohibbur Rahman MP, Md Kamrul Hasan ndc, Secretary of Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, and Stefan Liller, Resident Representative of UNDP Bangladesh.

The workshop was Chaired by Mr. Md. Mijanur Rahman, DG, DDM. State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief emphasized on the establishment of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the forthcoming 2nd phase of the project.
Participants from diverse ministries and organizations lauded the collaborative efforts, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to disaster resilience.

This milestone underscores Bangladesh’s proactive approach to disaster preparedness and underscores the fruitful partnership between the government, UNDP, and other stakeholders.
