Spread the love

Every year, Muslims all around the world perform the sacred act of sacrificing animals during the Eid-ul-Adha. The meat of the cattle is then to be shared with the poor, relatives and friends, besides their own consumption. Every year, for many, this exchange of meat raises the problem of how to store it for a longer period of time to avoid decay. And refrigerators eventually come out as the top solution for one to store raw meat without hassle. With Eid-ul-Adha almost knocking at the door – have you checked the current situation of your refrigerator? Is it choking with excessive ice? Is it looking a little dirty due to regular use? Maybe it is time to deep clean your fridge before you get occupied with other formalities of the holy event.

Keep your fridge squeaky clean this Eid with this step-by-step guide –

  1. Gather the necessary tools

Here is what you’ll need to clean your fridge:

  • Old towel for floor
  • Bucket with baking soda and water (2 TBSP to 1 QT water)
  • Paper towels or rags
  • Multi-purpose surface cleaning spray
  • Trash bags
  • Cooler
  • Vacuum
  1. Prepare the fridge

To ensures your safety, you must unplug the fridge and switch off all other necessary electronic connections before everything else. You may also want to be sure that you put down a towel or rag to protect floors from any spills.

  1. Empty the fridge

After ensuring all the necessary precautions, take all the food items, shelves and drawers out of the fridge. If you’re planning to do a really thorough cleaning, consider putting certain perishable foods in another refrigerator (if available). Plan ahead, so your foods and groceries don’t get spoiled while in the process.

  1. Wipe the interior of the fridge

Clean the interior of the fridge with a solution of two tablespoons of baking soda and one-quart hot water. Wipe with a damp cloth, then dry with a towel. Soak the shelves and drawers in the same solution; scrub, rinse, and dry. Note that if the rubber door seals are dirty, the door will not close properly and the refrigerator will not be able to function efficiently.

  1. Clean the exterior of the fridge

Use a clean microfiber towel clean the surface of all the doors, handles and cabinets with a mild detergent/ vinegar water.  If your fridge has a digital panel and display panel, clean it rather gently.

  1. Dusting the rear

Carefully move the fridge from the wall and vacuum the coils and the gear to remove any dust that may have collected over time. If you don’t have a vacuum cleaner, you can dust it gently with a brush.

  1. Allow to cool

Once all drawers and cabinets are back in your sparkling fridge, turn it back on and wait until the temperature inside falls to 5°C or below before replacing the food. If your fridge has a fast-cooling option, you may use it to speed up the process.

Following all these easy steps will make your refrigerator ready to preserve all the meat of this Eid-ul-Adha in a safe and healthy manner. If all this cleaning or servicing still fails to bring back the magic in your old kitchen companion, you can consider getting a new one.
