BSOA Wants to Ban the Display of Tobacco Products at POSs and Single Stick Sales

Despite the current ‘Smoking and Tobacco Products Usage (Control) Act, 2005’ prohibiting the advertisement and promotion of tobacco products, there is no specific prohibition on the display of tobacco products in point of sales (POS). By misusing this loophole of the act, the tobacco companies are promoting and expanding tobacco products through product displays in the sales centers. Samsung Electronics announced that it had reaffirmed its position as a top-five brand in Interbrand’s Best Global Brands 2021. According to the Best Global Brands list announced by the global consulting firm Interbrand recently, Samsung ranked fifth with a brand value of USD 74.6 billion, a 20% increase compared to last year. On the back of its strong financial performance, which has recovered to reach pre-pandemic levels, the company’s brand value surged by 20% this year, twice the average brand value growth rate among the top 100 brands in 2021.
