The relationship between a son-in-law and a father-in-law is expected to be rooted in mutual respect and healthy boundaries. But when those boundaries are shattered and the two are seen gambling side by side, it raises more than a few eyebrows. This is the exact premise of an offbeat, satirical comedy titled ‘Jamai Shoshur Juari’ (Gambler In-Laws), directed by the creative mind Md. Fahad, with the screenplay penned by renowned lyricist and playwright Rajib Moni Das.The cast features Tariq Swapan, Sara Zerin, Kazi Razu, Sayka Ahmed, Farid Hossain, and Riki, among others.
Director Md. Fahad says, “People are tired of constantly hearing negative news. This is just a humble attempt to offer them a moment of laughter. That’s why I chose to create a lighthearted comedy like this.”
Playwright Rajib Moni Das adds, “Today’s audience wants more entertainment in less time. We write stories like this satirical one, considering both the time constraints and the director’s narrative preferences.”
The story unfolds as the father-in-law begins dropping by his son-in-law’s house unannounced—without even informing his own daughter. Secretly, he spends the entire day gambling with the son-in-law, and only returns to his daughter’s home at night, after plotting with the son-in-law to make it all seem perfectly normal. Together, they smoke, laugh, and indulge in gambling like lifelong buddies.
But the mother-in-law is no fool. She quickly realizes what’s going on and confronts her son-in-law’s father harshly, ordering him never to join her son in gambling again. Even after facing verbal abuse, the father-in-law shrugs it off and boldly declares, “As long as I live, I’ll gamble with my son-in-law.” He even goes so far as to fund the son-in-law when he runs out of gambling money.
Naturally, this bizarre relationship starts to strain both families. Tensions rise, especially with the mother-in-law, who begins taking out her frustration on her daughter. This leads to a secret pact between mother-in-law and daughter as they scheme to drag both men away from their destructive gambling habits.”
To uncover how the son-in-law and father-in-law are finally steered away from their reckless path, viewers will have to watch ‘Jamai Shoshur Juari’. According to the director, the drama will be aired soon on a private television channel.
