Arpona Rani Rajbongshi, a celebrated playwright known for her thought-provoking plays, remains dedicated to writing throughout the year. However, during festivals, her work pace intensifies. In line with this, for the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, she wrote three plays: Sarbopathhi Doctor, Bishishto Chintabid, and Tonic Man. The plays were directed by Naznin Hasan Khan.

The plays feature various characters portrayed by Akhomo Hasan, Moushumi Hamid, Tarik Swapan, Ankhi Chowdhury, Kazi Raju, Reshma Ahmed, Jamal Raja, Zulfikara Chanchal, Farid Hossain, among others.

In regard to the plays, Arpona Rani Rajbongshi mentions, “I always try to write message-driven plays. Additionally, even during festival-themed plays, I make sure to bring an element of joy. This time, it has been no different. I hope the audience will enjoy these plays.”

One of the distinct stories is Sarbopathhi Doctor. The story follows Shyamol, whose father died when he was very young due to lack of medical treatment. His dream was to become a doctor. He worked part-time at a pharmacy and managed to get an opportunity to study medicine. However, due to financial constraints, he could not continue his studies. Eventually, he gained medical knowledge through books, YouTube, and Google research, and began providing medical services to the people of his village. He became a Sarbopathhi Doctor, offering treatments for people, animals, and birds, sometimes for free or for a nominal fee. Although Ila loved Shyamol deeply, she could not marry him due to his financial situation, and she often pressured him.

The plot also introduces Alim, who believes that everything in life must be planned. His reasoning is that if one spends all their income in one lifetime, how will they raise children? This idea leads to frequent arguments with his wife, Ratna. For instance, Alim believes that breaking incense sticks would allow them to be used for a longer period. He also plans to save battery life by removing the battery from his clock every night, thinking that this would prolong its life. But his plans come to an end when he realizes that in order to adjust the clock, he needs to go to the market or elsewhere.

These are some of the fascinating stories featured in Arpona Rani Rajbongshi’s Eid plays, blending social issues with humor and joy.
