A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Bahan Limited, a Nationwide Telecommunications Transmission Network (NTTN) licensee approved by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), and Chittagong City Corporation (CCC). The signing ceremony took place on Thursday (March 20) at the CCC office, where Chittagon City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain attended as the chief guest. Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam, Chief Executive Officer of CCC, and Rashed Amin Bidyut, Chief Operating Officer of Bahan, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations. To discourage smoking among children, adolescents, and young people, youth activists have demanded that in the upcoming fiscal year 2025-26, the lower and mid-tier cigarette categories be merged, setting the minimum retail price of each cigarette stick at 9 Taka. They argue that this price increase would deter young people from smoking, potentially preventing approximately 900,000 premature tobacco-related deaths in the long term.
