National Bank Limited officially launched the Bangla QR services at its head office on June 11, 2024. The "Bangla QR Acquiring and Bangla QR Issuing" launching program was officially inaugurated by Md. Touhidul Alam Khan, Managing Director & CEO of the bank as chief guest. Present at the event were Deputy Managing Directors of the Bank namely, Syed Rois Uddin, Sheikh Akhter Uddin Ahmed, Imran Ahmed, Md. The Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) today called for the continuation of the existing VAT exemption on tour operator services, which is planned to be withdrawn in the proposed national budget announced on June 6. TOAB came up with the demand at a press conference held at the Nasrul Hamid Auditorium, Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU). In this context, TOAB President Md. Rafeuzzaman, also the chairman of the FBBCI Travel, Tour and Hospitality Standing Committee, demanded the continuation of the existing VAT benefits for tour operators to further develop the tourism industry. Excessive amount of trans fat in food is increasing the prevalence of heart diseases and various other non-communicable diseases along with the overall fatality risk in Bangladesh. Safe food must be ensured by controlling trans fat levels in food to protect public health. The government has passed the "Controlling Trans-Fatty Acid in Foodstuffs Regulation 2021" to curb the use of trans fats in food. The UIU ASTRO team from United International University (UIU) won 3rd place in Asia and 11th place in the world at the CanSat Competition 2024 organized by the American Astronautical Society (AAS). The competition was held on June 6-9, 2024 in Virginia, USA. The Competition was sponsored by NASA, US Naval Research Lab (NRL), Siemens among others.
