Dhaka University’s Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall has officially been declared a smoke-free premises, marking a significant step toward promoting a healthier campus environment. The declaration came following a collective initiative led by the hall’s students, who submitted a petition urging the administration to ban smoking within the hall.
Acting on the students’ demand, the hall administration formally announced the hall as a “Smoke-Free Premises” and introduced punitive measures for smoking within the hall boundaries. Signboards have been installed at the main entrance to reinforce the new policy.
Ahsania Mission Youth Forum for Health and Wellbeing played a crucial role behind the awareness movement. Over recent months, the youth volunteers organized room-to-room awareness campaigns, placed “No Smoking” signage stickers in supportive student rooms, and conducted social media advocacy. The initiative also facilitated the formation of a student-led anti-smoking club, promoting leadership and health-conscious behavior among residents.
This development is being regarded as an impactful step toward building a safer, cleaner, and healthier academic environment. Stakeholders hope this initiative will inspire other residential halls and educational institutions across Bangladesh to adopt smoke-free campus policies.
