The Department of Pharmacy at United International University (UIU) organized a day-long Capacity Building Workshop on “Mammalian Cell Culture Techniques”yesterday at the UIU Campus. The workshop aimed to enhance research capacity and provide hands-on training in mammalian cell culture techniques for academics and researchers from universities across Bangladesh.
Professor Emeritus Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, Director of the Institute for Advanced Research (IAR), UIU was present as the Guest of Honor in the inauguration of the workshop. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Md. Zulfikar Rahman, Registrar of UIU and the workshop was conducted by Prof. Dr. Tahmina Faiz, Head, Department of Pharmacy, UIU
The speakers at the workshop highlighted the importance of research-driven education and advanced laboratory training in fostering scientific excellence and innovation. They also emphasized the importance of mammalian cell culture technology in biomedical and pharmaceutical research and the need to develop skilled human resources in this field.
The workshop brought together faculty members and researchers from different universities, including the University of Dhaka (DU), North South University (NSU), Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), Southeast University (SEU), and Daffodil International University (DIU), creating a valuable platform for scientific exchange and collaboration.
The program featured interactive lectures alongside intensive laboratory-based practical sessions. Participants received comprehensive training on mammalian cell culture laboratory setup, biosafety, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), aseptic techniques, media preparation, cell handling, subculturing, cell counting, viability assessment, incubation, cryopreservation, and the operation of essential cell culture equipment.
The workshop also encouraged scientific discussions, knowledge sharing, and professional networking, fostering future collaborative research among participating institutions.
The Department of Pharmacy, UIU, expresses its sincere gratitude to the distinguished guests, resource persons, participants, and organizing team for their valuable contributions. The enthusiastic participation and collaborative spirit of all attendees made the workshop a great success. The department remains committed to organizing similar initiatives to strengthen research capacity, promote inter-university collaboration, and advance biomedical research in Bangladesh.
