The British Council partnered with the BRAC University to host the FameLab Science Communicators Competition 2025 and with the BRAC bank for the English Speech Competition, celebrating outstanding student achievement and communication excellence. The FameLab Science Communicators Competition 2025 took place on 24 May at the BRAC University Auditorium, while the English Speech Competition was held on 25 May at the British Council Fuller Road Auditorium in Dhaka.
These flagship events brought together top-performing students from the national curriculum and English medium schools, offering them a platform to showcase their public speaking and science communication skills before a panel of esteemed judges and a live audience.
Maxim Raimann, Country Exams Director, British Council Bangladesh, remarked: “These competitions celebrate student excellence and empower young learners to communicate confidently and think critically. Through platforms like FameLab and the English Speech Competition, we aim to nurture the next generation of thought leaders and global citizens.”
FameLab Science Communicators Competition 2025, a globally recognised science communication challenge, invited students from Grades 9 to 12 to present scientific topics in an engaging and accessible way. The ten finalists were selected through school heats and regional rounds, culminating in the national finale.
Ahead of the final round, all participants completed a two-day masterclass led by Dr Kenneth Douglas Farquhar, a renowned UK-based science presenter, Guinness World Record holder, champion juggler, and expert in the art of science storytelling. The training focused on enhancing students’ abilities to communicate complex scientific ideas with clarity, charisma, and creativity.

Finalists represented the following schools: ABC International School, Cherry Blossoms International School & College, Daffodil International School (Uttara), Glenrich International School, Grace International School Dhaka, Kids Campus School, Paramount School and College (two teams), St. Joseph International School, and Tulip International School & College.
The English Speech Competition, organised in partnership with BRAC Bank under BRAC’s Agami Proposition, is part of the British Council’s broader IELTS banner, which supports youth-centred educational initiatives. Open to students from Grades 9 to 12, the competition was conducted across 33 schools in five divisions of Bangladesh, with students progressing through preliminary, regional, and final rounds.
Finalists were judged on content, delivery, and language proficiency. The competition builds young learners’ English fluency, leadership, and public speaking skills.
Winners of the English Speech Competition: Laiba Montaha from Navy Anchorage School and College in Group A (Grade 9/10), and Aaron Nafi from Halishohor Cantonment Public School and College in Group B (Grade 11/12).
Finalist schools included: YWCA Higher Secondary Girls School, Engineering University School and College, Udayan Uchcha Madhyamik Bidyalaya (three teams), Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, Dhaka Residential Model College, Notre Dame College, Khulna Collectorate Public School & College, Khulna Zilla School, Reverend Paul’s High School, Govt. Promothnath Girls’ High School, Shahid Mamun Mahmud Police Lines School & College, Rajshahi Govt. City College, Jalalabad Cantonment English School and College (two teams), Navy Anchorage School & College, Halishohor Cantonment Public School & College, Chattogram Collegiate School and College, St. Joseph International School, and Tulip International School & College.
