Local leaders of the ruling Awami League and its front organizations staged demonstrations against what they called ‘anarchy and vandalism in the name of politics’.
Activists of Awami League (AL), Jubo League, Swechchhasebak League and Chhatra League held a protest rally in front of city BNP’s party office at Kajir Dewri crossing in the town on Wednesday evening.
Addressing the rally as the chief guest, Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babor, a young AL leader and former deputy finance affairs secretary of central Jubo League, accused BNP of engaging in anarchy here in the name of movement for the last several days.
He alleged that the main election office of Mohiuddin Bachchu, a candidate of ruling AL for by-election of Chattogram-10 constituencies, came under attack and vandalized by the BNP activists recently.
Bangladesh got her independence under the leadership of AL, which also brought democracy to the country, observed Babor.
He aired a note warning that activists of AL and its front organizations would take to the streets and face them if the attackers were not arrested within the next 24 hours. He added that no one can stop Awami League.
City Jubo League president Mahbubul Haque Sumon, who presided over the rally, lambasted the opposition activists for resorting to anarchy. He called all to remain alert so that none could disrupt the law and order situation.
North district Jubo League president SM Rashedul Alam, south district Jubo League president Didarul Alam Chowdhury, city Swechhasevok League president Debasish Nath Debu, its general secretary Azizur Rahman Aziz, Chattogram College Chhatra League president Mahmudul Karim and others also spoke at the program.
