Naznin Hasan Khan directed the special drama “Piriter Professor” (Professor of Love), which was written by Arpona Rani Rajbongshi. The drama, a satirical comedy, features the well-known actor A.K.M. Hasan in the role of the professor. The character of the professor’s devoted student is played by Punam Hasan Jui, with other cast members including Tariq Swapan, Sahela Akter, Fahmida Rahman Trisha, Farid Hossain, Imran Ahmed, and others.
The story revolves around Ashik, a village boy who has secretly loved Ishita since childhood but is too shy to confess his feelings. Unable to express himself, he starts positioning himself as a “Professor of Love” in the village, offering romantic advice, and eventually becomes famous as a love expert. People from the village—both young and old—seek his counsel.
Ishita, on the other hand, dreams of falling in love with a city boy, marrying him, and touring the streets of Dhaka. In pursuit of this dream, she turns to Ashik for advice and, after following his teachings, becomes successful in her virtual romantic endeavors. However, she soon discovers the pitfalls of virtual love and returns to Ashik, only to realize that he too has feelings for her.
Playwright Arpona Rani Rajbongshi explains that the story highlights how technology has led people to disregard limits, with no sense of contentment despite abundant opportunities. The character in the story represents such a shift.
Director Naznin Hasan Khan emphasizes the dangers of blindly jumping into the virtual world without understanding its risks. In the story, a naive girl nearly loses her life due to these dangers, but thanks to the guidance of the professor, she returns to the right path and gains a new lease on life.
Thus, the drama, Piriter Professor, is a mix of comedy, twists, and a socially aware storyline.
