As part of a nationwide initiative by Buro Bangladesh to plant 10 million trees in response to the climate crisis, saplings were planted at various locations on the campus of Daffodil International University (DIU) today on August 28, 2024 at DIU’s campus in Birulia, Savar.In response to the increasing global warming and adverse effects of climate change, Buro Bangladesh has undertaken a mission to plant 1 million trees during the monsoon season across the country. As part of this initiative, 500 trees were planted on the university’s campus today.
During the event, Acting Vice-Chancellor of DIU, Prof. Dr. S. M. Mahbub-ul-Haque Majumder, expressed gratitude to Buro Bangladesh for this wonderful initiative. He stated that this effort would not only enhance the greenery of the university but also inspire further collaborative work with the organization as part of the country’s climate crisis management efforts.
On behalf of Buro Bangladesh, Dhaka Division Manager Mohammad Mustafizur Rahman Rahat mentioned that they are planting trees in suitable soil areas. He expressed optimism that this program will lead Bangladesh toward a permanent solution to the climate crisis and assured that attention would be given to the care of the planted trees. He also mentioned that DIU’s campus was selected for this initiative because of the confidence and hope placed in it.
Dr. M. A. Rahim, Head of the Department of Agricultural Sciences at DIU, emphasized that climate crisis poses a threat not only to Bangladesh but to the entire world. He hoped that the students of DIU, through this tree planting initiative led by Buro Bangladesh, would lead the way in creating a greener future for Bangladesh.The event was also attended by Savar Regional Manager Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, other Buro Bangladesh officials and DIU students.
