The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has honored Quazi Helal Uddin and Labib Tazone Labib with the Road Safety Excellence Award in recognition of their outstanding contributions, dedication and commitment to improving road safety, reducing road crashes and saving lives in Chattogram.

The award was presented by Hossain Mohammad Kabir Bheuiyan, Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic), on behalf of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police.

Labib Tazone Labib serves as the Initiative Coordinator for the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) in Chattogram. In this role, he has demonstrated leadership in strengthening collaboration among the city corporation, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to advance evidence-based road safety initiatives.

Quazi Helal Uddin, an Additional Superintendent of Police (Retd.), serves as the Enforcement Coordinator for BIGRS in Chattogram. He has played a key role in coordinating road safety enforcement activities and facilitating collaboration between police units and other stakeholders working to make the city’s roads safer.

Over the past several years, BIGRS has worked closely with the Chattogram City Corporation and the Traffic Division of CMP to implement a range of comprehensive road safety interventions. These include infrastructure improvements, strengthened traffic law enforcement and evidence-based policy advocacy aimed at creating a safer environment for pedestrians and other road users.

The Road Safety Excellence Award highlights the importance of sustained advocacy, institutional commitment and cross-sector collaboration in addressing the growing challenges of road safety.

The contributions of Quazi Helal Uddin and Labib Tazone Labib demonstrate how coordinated interventions — combining safer infrastructure, effective enforcement and evidence-based policy dialogue — can contribute to meaningful and measurable improvements in urban road safety.
