A team of young robotics enthusiasts from Bangladesh has brought pride to the nation by securing the 3rd Place Trophy in the Senior BottleSumo World Championship category at Robofest 2026, held at Lawrence Technological University, Southfield, Michigan, USA.
Robofest is an international robotics competition hosted by Lawrence Technological University, where students design, build, and program autonomous robots to compete in different challenge-based categories. The 27th Robofest World Championship 2026 was held from May 14 to 16, 2026, bringing together talented student teams from different parts of the world.
One of the major competition categories, BottleSumo, requires robots to operate autonomously and compete by pushing a bottle or an opponent robot off the table. The 2026 BottleSumo events were hosted during the Robofest World Championship on May 14–15,2026. (Robofest)
Representing Bangladesh, the team achieved an outstanding milestone by winning the 3rd Place Trophy in the Senior BottleSumo World Championship category.
A total of seven students were part of the Bangladesh team. Among them, six participating students were from International Hope School Bangladesh (IHSB), and one intern student was from a National Curriculum college in Sylhet, Bangladesh. The entire team was trained, mentored, and groomed by Robonauts Club.
Md. Mansib Ahsan (Grade 7 student), Shayaan Sadid Zaman (Grade 7 student), TANG.TIANXING (Grade 7 student), Nasif Ashab Khan Jami (Grade 8 student), Abdur Rahman Lahi (Grade 12 student), Farhan Mustafa (Grade 9 student)and Abrar Hasan (Grade 9 student) travelled while Md Moonzoor Morshed travvlled as the Coach.
The Bangladesh team participated in the Senior BottleSumo World Championship category and proudly achieved the 3rd Place Trophy. This was a remarkable achievement for the students, the mentors, Robonauts Club, and Bangladesh.
During their stay in the United States, the students gained valuable exposure to an international robotics competition environment. They observed how teams from different countries prepared, tested, modified, and presented their robots. They also learned how to manage pressure, solve technical problems within limited time, communicate as a team, and represent Bangladesh with confidence on a global platform.
The experience went beyond competition. The students had the opportunity to visit an international university campus, interact with participants from different countries, understand global standards in robotics education, and experience how practical STEM learning is applied in competitive settings. For many of them, this was their first opportunity to represent Bangladesh in a world championship-level robotics event, making the journey both educational and inspiring.
Coach of Robofest Bangladesh Team and Chief Executive Director of Robonauts Ltd Md Moonzoor Morshed said the achievement is not only about winning a trophy, but also about building confidence, discipline, creativity, leadership, and problem-solving ability among young students.
“Robofest 2026 has been a proud milestone for us. Our students worked hard, adapted quickly, and performed with confidence in an international environmshared inning the 3rd Place Trophy in the Senior BottleSumo World Championship category proves that students from Bangladesh can compete Championship in global STEM and robotics platforms when they receive proper guidance, training, and opportunities,” LTU Robofest Assistant Director Shannan Palonis said.
One of the participating students Abdur Rahman Lahi (Grade 12 student) shared “Taking part in Robofest was an unforgettable experience. We learned that robotics is not only about building a robot; it is also about strategy, teamwork, testing, patience, and making quick decisions under pressure.”
“Representing Bangladesh in the United States was a proud moment for us. Competing with international teams helped us understand our strengths and also motivated us to learn more and improve further.”
Robonauts Club is a Bangladesh-based STEM and robotics education platform that works to promote hands-on learning, robotics training, programming, engineering design, and international competition preparation among students.
Before Robofest 2026, Robonauts Club had been actively involved in grooming students for different robotics and STEM-related initiatives, including international competition preparation and hands-on engineering activities. The organization has also worked to inspire Bangladeshi students to participate in global STEM platforms such as robotics competitions and engineering challenges.
