ULAB Staff and U.S. Embassy Conduct Joint First Aid Training

Since December, The Civil-Military Support Element from the Embassy of the United States of America in Bangladesh has been leading first aid training for staff at ULAB. Most recently, on April 21, 2022, ULAB staff learned several life-saving techniques including controlling bleeding, treating burns and snake bites, providing CPR, and much more. As a result of this training, ULAB will have a pool of first aid trainers and responders available on campus at all times to assist and provide lifesaving care during medical emergencies. Once the pool of trainers is ready, they will take the lead in training the greater ULAB community, ensuring a more effective response to any medical emergency.

Speakers at a seminar today proposed raising the price of low-tier cigarettes to boost revenue generation for the government and also minimize health risks. They said although the low-tier cigarettes occupy almost 75 percent of the whole industry, their price remained unchanged over the last two years. As a result, the number of smokers at this level is not declining. The speakers came up with such suggestions at a seminar organized jointly by Dhaka Ahsania Mission and the Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF), titled ‘Tobacco Price and Tax’, held at the ERF auditorium in the capital on Saturday, according to a press statement.
