British Council organises Gateway to UK Education 2024 Symposium

The British Council recently hosted the Gateway to UK Education 2024 Symposium, bringing together 78 representatives from schools, education agents, counsellors, and UK universities. Held at the British Council’s Fuller Road Auditorium in Dhaka, the event provided participants with up-to-date insights and strategies to support students in pursuing their academic aspirations in the UK.

The symposium served as a platform for knowledge exchange and professional development, offering attendees the opportunity to engage with expert speakers, participate in interactive discussions, explore innovative tools, and expand their understanding of how to help students navigate the complexities of the UK educational system.

Among the key sessions, Divya Malhotra, Customer Account Manager, UK Visas and Immigration, British High Commission, New Delhi, delivered an insightful presentation on the UK student visa process, offering practical advice on avoiding common pitfalls and ensuring smooth applications. Mariam Haque Mousumi, Career Guidance Counsellor at Scholastica, shared valuable insights from recent UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) International Conferences, offering strategies to enhance the application process. Sarker Asif Iqbal, Programme Coordinator for Higher Education at the British Council, highlighted training and engagement resources available to counsellors and agents, equipping them with the tools to better support students.

The symposium concluded with a warm vote of thanks from Toufiq Hasan, Head of Education at the British Council. He praised the participants and speakers for their dedication and valuable contributions, stating, “At the British Council, our mission is to build connections, understanding, and trust between the UK and other countries through arts and culture, education, and the English language. Facilitating international student mobility is central to this mission, as it fosters cross-cultural understanding, enhances global perspectives, and builds long-term relationships. Your role as agents, school counselors, university representatives to promote UK Higher Education is pivotal in this mission, and together, we can continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of countless young learners.”
