Universal College Bangladesh (UCBD) held the orientation program for the second batch of the students who have enrolled in international business and information technology degree programmes offered by the University of Lancashire (ULan).

The orientation was held at the UCBD Gulshan campus on September 28, to welcome the freshers and their parents, providing them with an overview of university life and the UK degrees at UCBD.

As the exclusive partner of ULan, UCBD is the first higher education institution in the country to have received Ministry of Education approval to offer full degrees from international universities. Students enrolling in ULan programs can complete their full three-year honours degrees in Dhaka, or can transfer to the UK after the first year.

The event began with a warm welcome and opening remarks from Professor Muhammad Ismail Hossain, Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor Hew Gill, President & Provost of UCBD.

Addressing the packed lecture theatre, Professor Hew Gill said, “This is an excellent opportunity for all local students to learn from our internationally acclaimed faculty members. All of the degrees offered here in Dhaka are exactly the same as the degrees offered in the UK, and they follow the same curriculum. In three years time I look forward to presenting every student with a certificate which proudly states they have a degree from the University of Lancashire.”

Ambreen Zaman, IT Programme Coordinator at UCBD, emphasized the holistic nature of UCBD’s ethos. “University isn’t just about academics; it’s about developing the whole person and this orientation program introduces our students and their parents to the many resources available to help them thrive not only in their studies but also in life”.

Professor Hew Gill and Ms. Samia Salam, Parent Engagement and Event Coordinator, conducted a special Parents’ Orientation session, a key highlight of the event, which focused on how ULan degrees are a gateway to a great career or postgraduate study.

Students were given programme-specific sessions as part of the orientation, covering each of the degrees. During these sessions students also received presentations from UK faculty members who are involved in teaching and examining the ULan degrees in Bangladesh. Students also learned about key policies, academic expectations, student support services, and the exciting student life on campus.

A break midway through the orientation event created a space for networking and interaction among students, parents, faculty, and support staff. Contributions from faculty members and coordinators throughout the day reinforced UCBD’s mission to establish a well-informed, engaged, and supportive academic community from the outset of the academic year.

With top notch faculty and extensive international partnerships, Bangladeshi students can now earn a full UK university degree from right here in Dhaka. For further information about the ULan degrees and admission procedures, visit the Universal College Bangladesh website.
