Bangladesh’s pioneering multiplex cinema chain, Star Cineplex, is set to celebrate its 21st anniversary on October 8 with special arrangements for both audiences and entertainment journalists.
To mark the milestone, the popular cinema brand has announced a special movie show dedicated to entertainment journalists at its Bashundhara City branch in the capital. Alongside, cine-goers across all branches will enjoy a special offer — buy one ticket and get another free for any movie and any show on October 8.
Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, AGM of Media & Marketing at Star Cineplex, shared, “From the very beginning of our journey, entertainment journalists have been our constant supporters and well-wishers. Their contribution, along with the audience’s love, has been instrumental in taking Star Cineplex to where it stands today. That’s why this year’s anniversary celebration is centered around the journalists.”
Launched in 2004, Star Cineplex revolutionized the country’s cinema-going culture by introducing world-class facilities and an aesthetic viewing environment. At a time when movie theaters were losing audiences, Cineplex rekindled interest in the silver screen with spacious halls, modern sound systems, and a family-friendly atmosphere.
It also brought back the long-lost culture of watching movies with family and friends — something that had almost disappeared from urban life. Moreover, it fulfilled the long-held dream of Bangladeshi viewers to watch Hollywood blockbusters on the big screen. Over the years, it has become a common sight to see long queues of moviegoers waiting to grab tickets, sometimes even days before a film’s release.
Speaking about the two-decade journey, Mesbah Uddin Ahmed added, “The audience is the driving force behind Star Cineplex. Currently, Star Cineplex operates 22 halls across Dhaka and other major cities in the country. Several new branches are under construction, and the management has plans to expand further by next year.
