144 Acres of Forest Land in Purbachal Freed from Illegal Occupation, 155 Houses Demolished

Following the directive of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, a major eviction drive was carried out today in the biodiversity-rich area of Purbachal.

During the operation, 4.6 acres of illegally occupied land were recovered out of the total 144 acres under encroachment. A total of 155 illegally built houses belonging to 44 families were demolished. The estimated market value of the recovered land is approximately BDT 70 crore.
As a result of this operation, the entire 144 acres of forest land in Purbachal have now been declared free from illegal occupation.

The operation was led by the Divisional Forest Officer, Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division, Dhaka. The drive was conducted with the support of the Rupganj Army Camp, RAB-1, BGB, Kaliganj Upazila Administration, Kaliganj Police Station, RAJUK, and the Forest Department.

The government remains committed to taking such strict measures to protect biodiversity and conserve forest lands.
