The five-day-long 20th National Furniture Fair 2025 began today in the capital under the slogan “My Country, My Dream—Decorating Homes with Local Furniture.” The event, organized by the Bangladesh Furniture Industries Owners Association (BFIOA), is the largest in the country’s furniture industry.

The fair was officially inaugurated on Tuesday morning at the Rajdarshan Hall of the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Kuril, Dhaka, by Sheikh Bashir Uddin, Adviser to the Ministry of Commerce.

Event Overview

The five-day fair is being held across Gul Naksha (Hall–1), Pushpa Guccha (Hall–2), and Rajdarshan (Hall–3) of ICCB.
Special guests at the opening ceremony included Mohammad Hasan Arif, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), and Dr. K. M. Akhtaruzzaman, President of the Bangladesh Furniture Exporters Association.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Selim H. Rahman, Chairman of BFIOA. Among others who spoke were Alhaj Sheikh Abdul Awal, Vice Chairman and Convener of the Fair Committee; Mohammad Maksudur Rahman, Organizational Secretary; A. Karim Mojumdar, General Secretary; and Md. Elias Sarkar, Senior Vice Chairman of BFIOA.

Government Perspective

During his speech, Sheikh Bashir Uddin expressed optimism about the sector’s potential and urged entrepreneurs to increase investment in design and innovation. He emphasized that Bangladesh could secure a strong position in the global furniture market by utilizing local opportunities and resources. He added that trade fairs like this could help expand export markets and promote more trade exhibitions in the future.

EPB’s View

Mohammad Hasan Arif, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of EPB, said that export diversification is vital for increasing national income. The furniture industry, he noted, is a promising sector that can reach international standards through the use of local raw materials, modern technology, and skilled labor. He mentioned that the government has identified furniture as a potential export industry and will continue to provide policy support and incentives.

He also stated that such fairs help entrepreneurs strengthen networks and access global markets. He urged industry players to focus on innovative design, technological advancement, and quality improvement to remain competitive internationally.

Industry Outlook

At the event, it was highlighted that Bangladesh’s domestic furniture industry now meets 100 percent of local demand while exporting a growing volume of products abroad. The main goal of this year’s fair is to strengthen the local industry and expand its global footprint.

A total of 48 leading furniture companies are participating in this year’s fair, showcasing their latest designs and products across 278 stalls. Prominent participating brands include Akhtar, Hatil, Brothers, Nadia, Ayoto, Omega, JMG, Navana, Athenas, Partex, Regal, and Legacy.

On the opening day, a children’s art competition was organized, where 20 young participants received awards totaling 200,000 taka.

The fair is being managed by the Design and Technology Center, with Access Infotech serving as a partner organization.
