Students from the Department of Architecture at Bangladesh University (BU) have achieved remarkable success in the prestigious international competition ‘XXIX Plastic Spatial Encounter 2026’. The event was jointly organized by the Faculty of Architecture of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the renowned Luis Barragán Workshop. In this international competition, both teams representing Bangladesh University earned honorable recognitions, bringing immense pride and glory to the nation on the global stage.
This extraordinary achievement by the students of ‘Studio 1.2’ (42nd Batch) of the Architecture Department has brought great honor to the country.
In this recently held competition, the team of Md. Hasin Almas Himel, Tasnim, and Shashwati Gharami secured second place for the ‘Edge of Eternity’ project, and the team of Mosaddik Chowdhury, H. M. Hadi, and Ishrat Jahan Samia won the first honorable mention award for ‘The Living Cube’ project.
Alongside the students’ creativity, dedication, and hard work, the role of their mentors behind this success was undeniable. Team advisors Ema Eshrat and S. M. Ahadul Islam provided relentless guidance to the winning teams. Furthermore, Studio Teachers Ar. Sheikh Itmam Soud, Ar. Minhal Ahmed, and Ar. Arif Mahtab Kabir were in charge of the overall supervision of the entire process.
This international recognition for Bangladesh University is not an isolated event; rather, it is a continuation of excellence in architectural education. Previously, in the 2024 edition of the competition, BU students left a brilliant mark of their talent in the international arena by securing 3rd place and winning two Commendation Awards.
For this phenomenal success, Quazi Jamil Azher, Chairman of the Board of
Trustees (BoT) of Bangladesh University, BoT Member Architect Iqbal Habib, and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam have extended their warmest congratulations and greetings to the winning students, mentors, and teachers.
