The political satire film “The University of Chankharpul”, released on Friday, 12 June 2026, received an overwhelmingly positive response from audiences on its very first day in theatres. Despite unfavorable weather conditions and intermittent rainfall throughout the day, audience turnout remained encouraging. University students made up a significant portion of moviegoers at various screenings held at Star Cineplex (Bashundhara City, Panthapath) and Lion Cinemas, Keraniganj. Viewers from diverse age groups and professional backgrounds were also seen attending the screenings.

Following the afternoon screenings, the film’s director, executive producer, and cast members engaged directly with audiences. Many viewers highly praised the film for its bold political commentary, unique storytelling approach, and its portrayal of contemporary social realities. According to audience reactions, the film successfully captures familiar aspects of university life—including hall culture, guest-room practices, power politics, the “Big Brother” phenomenon, and the shattered dreams of young people—through humor, satire, and a deeply human perspective. Several viewers also commended the filmmakers for courageously portraying the darker realities of political leadership and power structures. The film has already been recognized by critics and audiences alike as a distinctive and thought-provoking political satire.

One audience member commented, “I did not see much promotion for the film, but after watching it, I am truly impressed. The storytelling and the way political realities have been portrayed are remarkable.”
Another viewer expressed surprise, saying, “Considering how openly the film exposes the realities of political leadership, I am amazed that it received censor board approval.”

Director Akash Haque and Executive Producer Md. Hafizuddin Munna revealed that, following the theatrical run, they plan to organize special screenings at approximately 50 universities across Bangladesh in collaboration with various film clubs. The initiative aims to make the film accessible to students at a minimal cost.

Speaking on the initiative, they said, “The University of Chankharpul is essentially a story about young people, university life, and the times we live in. We want students across the country to have the opportunity to watch the film easily and affordably. To achieve this, we are seeking support from corporate organizations, social institutions, and potential sponsors. We believe many individuals and organizations interested in educational and cultural initiatives will come forward to support this effort.”

Canada-based poet, author, and short-film filmmaker Roksana Lais said, “It has been a long time since I watched a film in a Bangladeshi cinema hall. I am deeply impressed by the teamwork demonstrated by these young talents, both in front of and behind the camera. Despite a limited budget, they have shown remarkable sincerity, courage, and skill. I hope they continue to create films that boldly present truth and reality.”

Meanwhile, Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Sajal, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, writer, and film critic, remarked, “I found the film exceptional. Important themes such as university life, youth, student politics, social realities, and the education system are rarely explored in Bangladeshi cinema. ‘The University of Chankharpul’ successfully presents these issues through a powerful political satire. Producing a film of this quality on a limited budget, with an entirely fresh cast instead of relying on established stars, is truly commendable. The cinematography, technical execution, and portrayal of contemporary student movements were particularly impressive. I believe this new generation of filmmakers is taking the Bangladeshi film industry in an exciting direction. We should encourage them by returning to cinema halls and supporting films rooted in Bangladeshi stories, realities, and culture.”

Inspired by Rono Anowar’s short story Jhora Patar Dukkho Bilash (Melancholy of Fallen Leaves), “The University of Chankharpul” explores university life, hall culture, student politics, power dynamics, and the aspirations and struggles of young people. The film has already earned significant recognition, including the prestigious FIPRESCI Award in the Bangladesh Panorama section at the Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF), as well as the Hiralal Sen Medal and Best Screenplay Award at the Amar Bhashar Chalachitra Utsab. The film is produced by B Team Limited, powered by partner I Creation, and distributed by HM Production & Multimedia.

The film stars Debdyuti Aich, Rocky Khan, Bobby Biswas, and a talented ensemble of emerging performers. Its popular songs, “Shohomot Bhai” and “Rajnitir Moydan,” have already generated considerable engagement across social media platforms.
The film is currently screening at Star Cineplex (Bashundhara City) and Lion Cinemas, Keraniganj.
