Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) Vice President Abdur Rashid Jitu, along with leaders of various hall student unions, visited the graves of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, offered floral tributes, and prayed for the eternal peace of their souls.
The visit took place on Friday morning (May 8) around 10:30 am at Zia Udyan in Dhaka. On the occasion, the leaders placed flowers at the graves and participated in a special prayer and munajat, seeking forgiveness for the departed leaders.
Among others were Kamal Uddin Hall Students’ Union Vice President G.M.M. Rayan Kabir and Shaheed Rafiq-Jabbar Hall Students’ Union General Secretary Shariful Islam, along with leaders from different hall student unions.
Speaking after the tribute, JUCSU VP Jitu said, “Former President Ziaur Rahman, as the proclaimer of independence and a pioneer of multi-party democracy, remains a source of inspiration in the political history of Bangladesh. Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is also a symbol of uncompromising struggle for democracy.”
“The ideology of Ziaur Rahman, the political legacy of Khaleda Zia, and the modern state vision of Tarique Rahman together represent a framework for building a humane, democratic, and discrimination-free Bangladesh,”he added.
“The July mass uprising restored the people’s voting and democratic rights, but defeated forces are still attempting to destabilize the country. Such efforts will be resisted at any cost in the interest of national sovereignty and public welfare,”he further added.
