UIU Celebrated Earth Day 2026

The Department of Environment and Development Studies (EDS) of United International University (UIU) andUIU EDS Club jointly organized the two-day celebration of Earth Day 2026. The closing ceremony of the Earth Day celebration was held at the UIU campus yesterday.

Mr. Abu Sadat Moniruzzaman Khan, Programme Head of Climate Change Programme (CCP), BRAC and Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, Actress and Director were present as the Special Guests in the program.The welcome speech was delivered by Dr. Shantanu Saha, Head, Department of Environment and Development Studies (EDS), UIU.The Dean of SoHSS, UIU Prof. Dr. Hamidul Huq, presided over the ceremony.

The event was organized to encourage students to develop their knowledge and creativity on environmental issues. The first day of the event included a quiz competition, poster presentation, video presentation and photography competition. The second day featured a tree plantation drive, a stall promoting sustainable products and a seminar on the sustainable environment. The seminar addressed urgent environmental challenges and sustainable practices.

Speakers at the program emphasized the importance of sustainable consumption, environmental protection, and collective responsibility in addressing current environmental challenges. They underscored the critical role of young people and academic institutions in fostering awareness and driving meaningful change toward a sustainable future.

The event concluded with a prize-giving ceremony, followed by a screening of a documentary featuring selected student works. The special guests presented prizes to the winners of the different competitions in the program.
