The new telefilm Joltungi, written by Afrin Jessika and directed by Rahim Sumon, brings a powerful social narrative to the screen, focusing on the widespread issue of color discrimination faced by women in society. The production features an ensemble cast including Naznin Hasan, Dilara Zaman, Hamidur Rahman, Eshika Sakin, Ovi Pramanik, Imamur Rashid Khan, Ratan Siddiqui, and others.

Produced under the banner of Anindya, the telefilm is led by producers Julfikar Chanchal and Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain, with Making Color Studio handling the overall production. Cinematography is done by Sakhayat Hossain Sakib, editing and color by Studio Cut & Color, background music by Zahid Hasan Anon, art direction by Charu Pintu, costume design by Farhin Haque, makeup by Md. Riman, and overall supervision by Tamanna Akhi.

Shot across different locations in Dhaka, Joltungi sheds light on the emotional and social struggles caused by colorism, delivering a bold message of protest and self-acceptance. The telefilm is set to air soon on a major television channel in Bangladesh.

Director Rahim Sumon has previously earned praise for notable broadcast works such as Bongshoprodip, Ekaki, Priyo Full Tumi, Godhulir Alo, Mamla Motin, Valobashi Valobashi, Nirobey Cheychi Tomai, Khoma, Shankha, Subconscious, Chaya Hoye Theko, Alomelo Batas, and many more.

The story revolves around Joya, a confident, dusky-skinned woman who faces color-based discrimination within her own marriage. Her husband Asif, influenced by relatives and friends who mocked Joya’s complexion, eventually drifted away, leading to their separation. Their daughter Tushi grew up away from her mother for 13 years.

At 18, Tushi returns and adopts her mother’s dusky complexion as a tribute to her strength and beauty. Although Joya initially misunderstands her, she soon recognizes Tushi’s affection and realizes that both Asif and Tushi genuinely love her.

Through its heartfelt message, Joltungi calls for society to break free from outdated prejudices and embrace the belief:
“I will remain who I am.”
Only then can color-based discrimination truly lose its influence.
