To make overseas employment financing faster and more accessible for Bangladeshi migrant workers, a2i – the government’s digital transformation arm – has launched the ‘Migration Loan’ service on the myGov platform (www.mygov.bd). The service, introduced on 28 September 2025, is a joint initiative of Probashi Kallyan Bank (PKB) and a2i, enabling applicants to complete loan applications, verification, and approvals entirely online.

Within just one month, over 100 outbound workers have received loans totaling approximately Tk 3 crore, marking a significant milestone in the government’s drive for digital financial inclusion.

Previously, applicants had to make several bank visits involving long delays, travel expenses, and complex paperwork. The new digital process, however, ensures a faster, transparent, and citizen-friendly experience. Applicants can now log in to myGov, select ‘Migration Loan’, fill in necessary details, upload scanned documents, and submit their applications online.

After digital verification by the respective bank branch, the approved loan is directly deposited into the applicant’s bank account. With joint tracking by myGov and PKB, applications are now processed and approved within an average of seven working days, significantly reducing time, cost, and administrative hassle.

Applicants must submit a passport-size photo, passport, visa, BMET card, and National ID, along with required guarantor documents such as a National ID, citizenship certificate, and photo. Currently, the maximum loan amount stands at Tk 3 lakh.

Many applicants have praised the system for its simplicity and transparency. Rakib Ahmed, a service recipient, shared, “To fulfill my long-term dream of working abroad, I registered on myGov and applied online to the Cumilla branch of Probashi Kallyan Bank for a migration loan. The platform’s step-by-step guidance made uploading documents and scheduling appointments easy. Within days, I received a confirmation call, and verification was completed. I can now prepare to travel without brokers or long queues.”

Md. Abdur Rofiq, Project Director (Joint Secretary) of a2i, said, “We plan to further automate the process by integrating with national databases. In the next phase, the NID, passport, and BMET systems will be connected to enhance verification and reduce manual steps.”

The initiative involves Probashi Kallyan Bank, the Financial Institutions Division (FID), and the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment. Currently, the Migration Loan service is available at five PKB branches — the Principal Branch, Kakrail, Keraniganj, Manikganj, and Cumilla. Work is underway to expand to 115 branches nationwide and integrate services from Karmasangsthan Bank, Bangladesh Krishi Bank, and the Bangladesh Municipal Development Fund through myGov in future phases.
