On the first Sunday of August 3, celebrated as Friendship Day, the film “Megher Kopat” made its debut on the OTT platform Toffee, operated by Banglalink. Although the film had previously been released in theaters, this marked its first appearance on a streaming platform.
Directed and screenplay written by Walid Ahmed, with the story by Afroza Momen, Megher Kopat features a diverse cast including Rakib Hossain Evan, Cindy Rolling, Sabrina Tonni, Afroza Momen, Rezaur Rahman Rizvi, Rehana Parvin Hasi, Zaman Saif, Raju Ahsan, and many others. The entire movie was shot in the scenic locations of Srimangal, bringing an authentic and visually rich backdrop to the story.
The film includes five melodious songs, all written by director Walid Ahmed himself. Renowned vocalists such as Javed Ali, Arghya, Rupankar, Afroza Momen, Dilruba Kamal, and Anindya Chattopadhyay lent their voices to these tracks. The music was directed by Nasif Oni, Rupankar, Walid Ahmed, and Abhishek Saha. The film was co-produced by Walid Ahmed and Afroza Momen, combining their creative and production strengths.
Megher Kopat has already received international acclaim, winning several prestigious awards. Among them are Best Film at the Suchitra Sen International Film Festival in New York and three honors at the Global Independent Film Festival 2023 in India, including Best Foreign Film, Best Director in a Foreign Film category, and the Raj Kapoor Award.
Originally released in cinemas across Bangladesh on November 3, 2023, the film ran for four consecutive weeks at Blockbuster Cinema in Dhaka and was also screened in theaters outside the capital. Later, under the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) agreement, the film was sent to India for regional distribution.
Audiences can now watch Megher Kopat completely free of charge on the Toffee app and website, making it more accessible than ever to viewers in Bangladesh and beyond.
