Seminar on “Career Strategies and Corporate Expectations” Held at Bangladesh University

In response to the rapidly evolving landscape of technology and market demands, the Department of Business Administration at Bangladesh University organized a seminar titled “Building a Career in a Rapidly Changing World and Meeting Employer Expectations” to enhance students’ skills, mindset, and professional competence.

The seminar took place today, Saturday (July 27), at 2:00 PM in the university’s auditorium. It brought together distinguished professionals from the corporate world, academics, and senior members of the university administration.

The keynote speaker was Mr. Shehzad Munim, a prominent corporate figure and former Managing Director of British American Tobacco Bangladesh. Drawing from his extensive professional experience, he emphasized that today’s graduates need more than academic degrees — they must be technologically adept, creative in decision-making, and adaptable to change.

He further noted that modern employers seek individuals who are not only capable in their roles but also possess a mindset geared towards driving organizational growth. Addressing the students, Mr. Munim underscored the importance of patience, discipline, and self-confidence at the outset of one’s career. He also shared insights into the challenges he faced throughout his career and how he overcame them to achieve success.

The special guest of the event, Ms. Shahnila Tajrin Azhar, a respected member of the Board of Trustees of Bangladesh University, highlighted the importance of innovation, teamwork, and ethical values for a successful career. She also shed light on the significance of female leadership, entrepreneurial thinking, and social responsibility among students.

In his remarks, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University, Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam, stated that the university’s goal is not just to award degrees but to nurture competent and compassionate future leaders. He affirmed that such seminars are regularly organized by the university in pursuit of this mission.

The program commenced with a welcome address by the event chair, Professor Dr. Mozakkerul Huda, Chairman of the Department of Business Administration. He stated that in today’s highly competitive world, universities must empower students not only to seek jobs but to become job creators themselves. He reiterated that Bangladesh University is committed to this cause.

Students expressed that events like this provide them with a clearer understanding of real-world challenges and inspire them towards self-development. They expressed hope that Bangladesh University will continue to organize such impactful and skill-enhancing programs in the days ahead.

The seminar was attended by deans of various faculties, department heads, faculty members, and a large number of students. A vibrant Q&A and interactive session followed, generating great enthusiasm among the participants.
